This project was mainly about the trajectories of the basketball in the condition of swish and bank shot, based on the function of oblique projectile. Furthermore, the possibilities of scoring of swish and bank shot were determined by the area between the functions where the basketball hit the front and the back of the basket. Besides that, the concepts of “wiggle room” and “shifting angle variation” were introduced to study the trend of possibility of scoring. Lastly, in order to study the relationship between the release height and the possibility of scoring, the function of the trajectory for scoring was manipulated by the “release height” as a new varibable. By comparing the area between the functions where the basketball hits the front and the back of the basket, the optimum release height was found.
Through this project, it was found that the wiggle room is the largest at the zero degree line, and the shifting angle variation is the largest at the 90° line. Moreover, if the release height increases up to 3m, the possibility of scoring would increase.
